The Curve of Forgetting & Computers
All of us know that although we may perfectly understand something while
being taught it, after we are away from it for a while, it gradually fades
from our memory. Teachers explain content and concepts in class and students
take notes on their learning. Often they don't review these notes until
just before testing. If they review them each evening after taking them
and then several times after that, they'll find that studying for tests
is not so much of a problem.
Here is something that might be called "non-homework homework"
that's time-saving when it comes to helping your children master content.
Encourage your children to look over their classnotes each night, and type
them into the computer. From time to time, have them review the notes on
the computer or print them and put them into their notebook. As they develop
this habit of reviewing notes, they will remember their coursework better,
and the notes be then be in a readable form for studying for tests.
