Homework & Studying at Home

Does "Study for a Test" Mean No Homework?

Some students think the word "study for a test or quiz" means no homework. Check with your children about when tests are coming up. Often teachers follow a pattern for test and quiz giving. You need to instill in your children what studying means when they are young so that they'll develop good patterns for studying for tests and quizzes.

Does "Work on your long term project" Mean No Homework?

Long-term projects such as reports, book talks, and term papers often mean no homework to some children in the days and weeks before the assignment is due. Then all of the sudden they say something like this to you, "Mom and Dad, I have a presentation on the solar system tomorrow and I need to get 25 more moons for my diorama and . . . .

Check with your children about upcoming projects and writing as you work with them to learn to manage their time. Creating a homework calendar might be a good idea.
