The Children's Playground

How to Find a Good Book or Story

This information comes from Apple's Curriculum Center Literature theme. Tell your parents and teachers about the Curriculum Center, for they might want to go there for more good book ideas. (They'll also find lots of other web information on other topics at the Center.)

If you're in Grades 4 up, try the Newbery Awards and List of Newbery Books to find a really good book. By going to the Calgary Site's Best Books and Book Awards, you'll find so many lists and good books that you won't know what to read first.

If you love picture books, try Caldecott Awards.

If you are in Grades 3 up, you'll appreciate Reader's Theater Editions where you can find some very nice scripts (plays) to read and download to your computer.

Here are some more places on the Information Highway where you can find some short stories:

Webtimestories
PlanetZoom
PBS Storytime

For Parents-

The Children's Literature Web Guide's Online Children's Stories contains a number of stories, activities, and art available for reading or downloading. Links jump to Songs and Poetry, which has everything from nursery rhymes to classic poems; Classics for Young People for access to major children's books; Contemporary Writing for Children and Young Adults with stories from Dr. Seuss and Ludwig Bemelmans; and Children's Writings which links to a number of sites containing interesting literary projects for children.
