Home Manners Madness
These are the school Annoying Annoyances. Do you ever do some
of them? Be honest. If you did, you probably just weren't thinking. Next
time, you'll remember to think, so that you won't become an Annoying
Annoyance.
After you check the Annoying Annoyances I've listed, try some of the
activities. I think you'll enjoy them.
Dr. M
What Annoys Your Family?
- Not being thoughtful.
- Not using common sense.
- Not using good manners.
That about sums it up!
Mannerly Activities
Activity #1: Make a list of several things you can do for your family.
What could you do that would really make someone happy? Maybe it could
be something as simple as helping mom bring in the groceries, helping your
little sister or brother with their homework, calling up your grandparents
to chat, etc. Decide what you'll do today and tomorrow and then . . . Make
a schedule on your computer.
Activity #2: Think of everything your parents do for you. Have you told
your parents lately how much you appreciate them? Why not do it today?
Have you thanked your parents and your brothers and sisters for anything
recently? Why not do it? Put some thank you reminders on your schedule.
Activity #3: There are times when you really want to do something, but
your parents say "No." Actually, you probably know why your parents
won't let you do this. It might be too dangerous, it might be on a school
night, it might be that your parents can't provide the transportation to
get you there, or it might be lots of other reasons. Your parents don't
say "No" just because they enjoy being the boss.
Perhaps when something like this comes up, you should talk to your parents
about how you feel. Then together you might find acceptable activities
that you can do.
Activity #4: Learn about giving a party. Ask your parents for permission
to have a party. Plan carefully. Send invitations. Use your computer to
make little favors for everyone. You can create them with a paint program.
Be creative. You can do it! Maybe you'll design hats for everyone? Who
knows? Have food everyone will like. Plan your menu and print it with the
help of your computer and printer. Plan activities that everyone will enjoy.
Be a wonderful host or hostess at the party. Enjoy!
Activity #5: I'll bet you forgot to send thank you notes for a present
you received this year or for something nice somebody did for you. How
about doing it today? It will make you feel really good.
Activity #6: Ask your parents if you can plan a fancy family dinner
for them (and maybe for your grandparents, too). Study about good manners
at dinner. Have your mother or dad help you with the menu, cooking, and
serving. Set the table properly and create a nice centerpiece on the table.
When your "guests" arrive, treat them to a wonderful evening
with very nice conversation and good manners. After dinner, you can announce
that you are taking everyone on a special cruise on the Information Highway.
Now-where will you go? Decide ahead of time, for you won't want to keep
your guest waiting.
