Special Places for Kids on the Information Highway

Here are a few sites you may want to visit.

This is just a start for you.


Arizona's KTVK TV Kids Club Crafts has a variety of projects such as making kites, puzzles, tie dyed clothing, & bird feeders. (Best for Grades 2 -6 up with adult supervision)

Carlos Magic Coloring Book is a very special place if you're in Grades Preschool through maybe Grade 2. Your parents will love this site, too. Let them do some coloring.

CyberKids Games has word fun (did you know birds marry their Tweethearts?), puzzles, mazes, and concentration waiting for you. CyberKids has a reading room, art gallery, games, multimedia, .... (Best for Grades 2 or 3 up)

Everybody should visit the Famous Painting Paris Exhibition. Find a painting you like and enlarge it on your screen. See which paintings you like best.

I'll bet you'd like exploring caves. If you would and you are at least in Grade 2, you'll love the Kentucky Caves site. Find out about "Land that Breathes", caving, who eats what down under the Earth's surface, and Karst Chemistry.

You can read stories by other kids and send in your own at KidPub. (Best for Grades 3 up)

The Kids on the Web has fun stuff, penpals, children's books and stories, . . . .

Have fun at The Kids' Page of the Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Make paper airplanes, learn to speak Spanish, and more at Learn2. You'll find step by step directions for folding and speaking and . . . . (Remember only to use the tutorials your parents want to you use.)

LEGO Internet Games includes LEGO DUPLO, a concentration game, and LEGO "Build a Duck" which lets you construct five crazy LEGO ducklings. Have your parents go to this site with you, for you may need to download Shockwave and Java software. A Note: These are large files that take a while to download, but they are lots of fun.

With MapQuest you can find your home, school, parks, and more-if you don't live on a rural route. (Best for Grades 4 up)

Mayaquest is a great way to learn with other students about the rain forest. (Best for Grades 4 up)

Media Shockwave of the States lets you try your skill at state identification. (Best for Grades 4 up)

You know Bill Nye, the Science Guy, I'm sure. Go to his site and have fun with the movies, sounds and science.

With your parents' permission, try some of these activities from the Smithsonsian National Air & Space Museum.

Tour the Nevada Governor's Mansion and the Governor's Office with a very special ghost.

Go to Parents and Children Together Online to find some stories you and your parents can read together.

"Storybook Park", "Doc's River Raft", "Great Ruby Reef" and "Kiwi Island" are just some of the fun at Planet Zoom

Create your own Pop-Up Book at the Makers Gallery.

The State Flags Game and the State Capitals Game are places where you can sharpen your knowledge of the states. (Best for Grades 3 up)

Go to San Jose to find the Tech Museum of Innovation where you can stand a robot on its head. (Best for Grades 4 up)

For lots of fun with science go to Try Its from Newton's Apple where you can have fun with satellites, and projectiles, racing jars, collecting pepper ;-) (Yes, really!), and much more. Make sure your parents are with you to help when you do any experiments.

Why not try United States Geological Survey's Kids Corner with its coloring book on animals, endangered species, and more.

Winnie the Pooh and Friends takes you on an "expotition" through the "hundred aker wook", gives you a coloring book to download, and lets you send in pictures of yourself dressed up like a pooh character.

World of Amphibians puts you into the sight and sound world of amphibians. (Best for Grades 4 Up)

If you'd like to try your skill at composing, go to Young Composers. You can submit your music if you are 39 years old or younger. Are you over 39?
