The Minuet

Abigail is a dancer who simply loves to do the Minuet.

Abigail: It makes my beautiful whiskers vibrate. I am light on my feet and I look so good when I dance. I think I'll see if TubbyDog will be my partner. TubbyDog, would you like to dance?

TubbyDog: "Dance? I am great at the jitterbug. I'll twirl you all around and lift you up in the air!

Abigail: That would not be ladylike. I'll get grouchy if you don't do the dance I want. You know how I can growl. Growwwwlllllowwww! Hisssssss!

TubbyDog: Yep, arf, I know, you can growl louder than I can, and you are much more dangerous. I'm just a lovable puppydog.

Abigail: Okay, then we'll do the minuet..

TubbyDog: The Minuet?! That's a dance for George Washington, and he was President about 200 years ago. I don't know how to Minuet.

Abigail: I'll take you to an Internet place where you can learn in about 5 easy steps. We'll go to visit Robert E. Lee.

TubbyDog: Is General Robert E. Lee going to teach me to do the Minuet?

Abigail: No, silly. Directions for the dance are at his house and you will need to find them. Then we can dance. Practice tapping your left foot gently, please.

TubbyDog: Oh my. Oh my. This is not going to be easy. First, I have to find the dancing directions in General Lee's house and then I have to decide which foot is my left one.

Activities

After you act out the play part above with a friend, go to General Lee's house and find the directions for the Minuet. See if you and your friends can do the Minuet. It should be fun and easy.

Do you think it will be easy for TubbyDog and Abigail to dance the Minuet? Draw a picture of them doing the Minuet and then a picture of them doing the jitterbug. Do you know what the jitterbug is? Ask your parents or your teacher if you don't know.

Finish writing the play by telling how TubbyDog finds the information and learns how to dance. Should Abigail put her right front paw and TubbyDog's right front paw? Will TubbyDog step on Abigail's dainty little paws and make her grouchy again?
