Itchy Insects
The Five Paws-Up Foundation brings you our panel of highly
acclaimed judges. They award "Five Paws-Up Prizes" to some of
the best sites for kids on the Internet. Look for their critical reviews
here on the Apple site in "The Children's Playground." In order
to be honored with this esteemed award, all five critics must give a paws-up,
making a total of five paws for excellence.
Our experts take on Insect sites this time. "I adore
chasing crickets," comments Abigail, "and online I chased a
real roach and watched a Doodlebug go in circles."
AND NOW--Itchy Insects
Critic Milo the WonderDog's Choice--Gordon's Entomological
Home Page
<http://www.ex.ac.uk/~gjlramel/welcome.html>. "Click on Insect
Anatomy and you'll learn all about the body parts of insects. Neat stuff.
This Gordon is something. You can find the biggest and the smallest insects
there. I wonder what Gordon's dog's favorite insect is? Probably something
I've never heard of. My favorite is the butterfly. I had one land right
on my nose once."
Critic TubbyDog Terrific's Choice--Amazing Insects Project
<http://www.minnetonka.k12.mn.us/groveland/insect.proj/insects.html>
"I liked this site because third graders did lots of it, and I adore
8 and 9 year olds. They are good at scratching ears. I want to hear you
sing the insect songs. Sing some to "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"
and "Farmer in the Dell." You can probably make some up yourself.
Buzzzz, Buzzzz, Buzzzz...."
Critic Dr. Boo's Choice--Electronic Elementary Magazine <http://www.inform.umd.edu:8080/UMS+State/MDK12_Stuff/homepers/emag/>
"This isn't exactly an insect site, but you can draw some wonderful
insects and send them to be published in this magazine. I love to draw,
don't you? I ate a bug once, but it's nicer to draw them."
Critic Abigail the Grouch's Choice--Yuckiest Site of the Web
<http://www.nj.com/yucky/roaches/index.html> "Oh my, don't
step on Rodney the Roach when you go here. Rodney will let you know what
he does all day and all night. Did you know that Rodney has 2000 lenses
in his each eye and has white blood? Do you know that even I, Abigail the
great in-shape athlete, can't sneak up on Rodney? Do you know why?"
Critic Sherlock Kitty's Choice--Ant Farm Postcards <http://www.e-cards.com/e-cards1/categories/v-cards/ant-e-cards.html>"Well,
if you're using a modem, this site can take a while, but it's worth it.
You can send all your friends postcards that have a real (almost) video
of an ant farm. I think they might be rather surprised. Oh, and I have another
suggestion, but I can only give one Paws-Up each time. So--here's a secret.
Go to Yahooligans.com and find Monarch Watch. You CAN find it, I know. Sherlock
Kitty is always right."
